Join Pritzker at Open Streets on Saturday, Aug. 1

Parent Volunteers Needed

On Saturday, August 1, Open Streets will give friends and families the chance to enjoy eight miles of city streets the way they want: biking, dancing, playing, walking and more! And Pritzker will be there!

Open Streets will span from Logan Square to Little Village, passing through Humboldt Park, North Lawndale and Garfield Park along the way. It will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. There is no event registration, and participants can join in at any point along the route.

Take a step off the route at any of the community-run activities. The lively scenes will display each community's flavor with performances, children's games, art activities, workout classes, music and much more. Pritzker will be represented with a table in Humboldt Park. The table will feature a bike decorating station for youth.

Parents are invited to join Sylvia Ramos at the Pritzker table anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to help greet those enjoying the event, help kids decorate their bikes, and share information about our school. Parents who want to volunteer can bring their kids along with any kind of wheels: bikes, skate boards, roller blades and baby buggies.

Parent Patrol

Now that the weather is getting nicer (finally!!), the students are apt to spend more time on the playground.  This being the case, we are in need of more Parent Patrol volunteers.  As Parent Patrol volunteers, we become extra “eyes and ears” for the teachers and staff that already monitor the playground in the mornings and afternoons.

Generally, our main focus is to keep the peace on the playground and in the school; to ensure the safety of each child.  Also, it is not uncommon for a Parent Patrol volunteer to escort a student with a skinned knee to the office or school nurse.

It is also important to help the students understand that once they are on CPS property, they are to remain there until a parent picks them up or school is dismissed. This means no “quick trips” to the corner store.

If you have an extra fifteen minutes in the morning or afternoon to help out, please let Kathy McNamara know.  We have a few yellow jackets, orange vests and even some rain ponchos for parents to wear as they monitor our students on the playground each day.

Upper-grade School History Fair

History Fair projects for 6th-8th grade classes are due the week of February 18th.  Please check with your child and/or their teacher to confirm the exact day your child’s project is due.

The Upper-grade School History Fair will be February 28^th from noon to 3:00 p.m

Mr. Weissbuch is seeking persons to serve as judges on the 28^th.  If you are able to serve as a History Fair Judge or if you know of someone else who would like to volunteer in this way please contact Mr. Weissbuch by (email) or by leaving a message in the school office.  There is an established rubric that the judges use to assess each entry.

This year there will be a special History Fair for parents and community members on Wednesday, March 5^th from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  Please plan to come and see the culmination of our students’ hard work.

“Wish List” of items needed for the Annie Production

The following items represent the “Wish List” of items needed for the Annie Production. We expect to have to create some of them, but would like to collect as many as possible from our school community to keep our production costs low.

            These items should look very “used” if not near the end of their useful life:

•         12 Pails and Brushes for scrubbing the floors

•         Door

•         Rolling laundry hamper

•         Old Fashioned Radio

•         Whistle on a rope

•         Faded twin sized sheets and bed pillows

•         Switchblade Comb

•         Metal Trash Can (outdoor type)

•         Park Bench

•         Street Lamp

•         2 old Studio Microphones (they don’t have to work)

•         Apple Basket

            These items should look to be in excellent condition, possibly new:

•         Christmas Tree with lights

•         Large Plant or Flower Arrangement

•         Old Fashioned Wheelchair

•         Victorian Chair(s)

•         Victorian Settee or Couch

•         Wooden or Leather Office Chair

•         2 Suitcases (circa 1930s)

•         Oriental Rug

•         Briefcase

•         Plastic Champagne Glasses & Tray

•         Large Appliance Box (Cardboard)

Annie production

Overall, the ensemble seems very talented and enthusiastic, so it should be a great show.  We are all excited and anxious to see what they can really do!

There will be a mandatory cast meeting on Monday, December 3, from 3:15-4:15 in the auditorium. 

At the meeting we will:

• Discuss the requirements for participation in the show
• Answer any questions your child may have about being part of the production
• Distribute a tentative rehearsal calendar
• Announce those students who are being called back to audition further for the lead roles

In the mean time, please make note of the following important dates:

• Monday, 12/3: Mandatory General Cast Meeting 3:15-4:15
• Tuesday, 12/4: Female Lead Role Call-Backs 3:15-4:15
• Wednesday, 12/5: Male Lead Role Call-Backs 3:15-4:15

Pritzker "Curb Appeal" - Join Us 9/16 & 9/23!

Volunteer to Improve Pritzker's Curb Appeal!

We are planning to improve the CURB APPEAL of Pritzker Elementary School by removing dead and volunteer trees, pruning established shrubs and trees, and raising funding for new plantings along Damen Ave. Last year we added picnic tables for the students to use for lunch, outdoor classes, and special occasions. This year we want to transform the green space into a beautiful garden for the students and community to enjoy.

Hi Pritzker Parents!

This Wednesday, JUNE 6, 2007, from 6-7pm is the FINAL PTO MEETING of the year!  We will have nominations and elections for next year's officers.  We will also eat and discuss fundraising, family nite, service project, etc., ideas for next year.  If you have any good ideas, requests, things to consider for next year or just want to socialize with other Pritzker parents, come out and join us!
